Letter from the President

Dear Members,

As we round out the year and prepare for the holidays I find myself reflecting on both the past and the future. First of all I am grateful for Chris Cashel’s leadership of the club over the past 3 years. Her organizational knowledge, compassion, and love of the sport are evident in so many ways throughout the club. When forming a new organization you prepare for both the known and unknown variables. None of us could have possibly anticipated the changes in our world and daily lives over the past year. Despite the pandemic our club was able to host all but two of our regularly scheduled events, and one of those was rescheduled due to the ice storm. We thank Stacia Wert-Gray for all the rescheduling duties and Robin Hessel for being so flexible with allowing us to hold events at Valley View Equestrian Center.

The comradery that our organization displays is quite remarkable. Without participation from our members and guests, and the countless hours that our volunteers donate, there wouldn’t be an organization. Despite the Covid protocols our events were well attended and the safety of all attendees was paramount. I anticipate the beginning of 2021 won’t look much different than last year but I am confident that we can continue to offer opportunities following USEF protocols.

There is a new committee, being headed by Annie Houchin, for Youth/Young Riders within our group. The future of the sport is in the hands of these young people and the group will provide an opportunity to socialize, gain knowledge, and grow in the sport. All youth are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Financially the past year has been challenging because the overall show attendance was less than typical. We cannot thank our donors and generous bidders enough for making the Silent Auction at the GMO Meeting/Awards Banquet a huge success! I anticipate that we will include that in the future so start thinking of basket ideas for next fall. A special thanks to Jay Craig and his wife Frankie for their generous donation to the club for the second year in a row. One of the foundations of the organization is to provide education and show experiences at an affordable price and your support makes this possible.

Wishing you and your families a Blessed Holiday and a Happy, Healthy New Year!
